Kensington Market is one of the most famous neighbourhoods in Toronto. It is surrounded by College Street, Spadina Avenue, Dundas and Bellevue. It is an area with many small and dead end streets that can be often confusing to navigate. Kensington Market itself was slowly founded in the early twentieth century by Jewish immigrants and some Italians. And that is why it was later known as “the Jewish Market”. It became notable for the open air market reminiscent of European markets. This Jewish Market was the start of an old world marketplace in the heart of the Kensington neighbourhood. It sells a great diversity of items imported from the countries of the various immigrant communities in the Toronto area. It is quite clear that the popular outdoor market of Kensington reflects the diverse mix of cultures in the downtown Toronto area.
