Forest Hill Area
Forest Hill is an opulent neighborhood situated in central Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Originally it was embodied as a village, and later united by the city of Toronto along with the Village of Swansea. Known before as Spadina Heights, Forest Hill acquired its name from a vacation home of the late John Wickinson. Forest Hill Village, which is a main part of Forest Hill, takes up majority of the original area of the village, extending from the north at Eglinton Avenue to the south at Heath Street along Spadina Road between Bathurst Street and Avenue Road. Split into two parts, (Lower and Upper Village) Forest Hills Lower Village is known for its upscale shopping and dining. It has also drawn a wide range of residential development, mainly apartments encompassed in the primary boundaries of the city and other contiguous neighborhoods. Today Forest Hill’s population is predominantly Jewish. According to a census taken in 2001 the Jewish community makes up about half of the Forest Hill area. It is now home to many synagogues and businesses catering to the Jewish community.
