St. Lawrence Market, one of the two major markets in Toronto Canada, is known for its unique, yet vivid architectural style. Previously known as St. Lawrence Ward, its large retail vendors are the center of the neighborhood. One of the known landmarks is the Flatiron Building, which has a distinct narrow wedge shape to it. It was the first of its kind to be built in North America. One of the main areas, The Esplanade off of Yonge Street is full of cafes, hotels and restaurants that run in the middle of the area. In the late 1900�s David Crombie a politician, professor and consultant, also the mayor at that time, determined that the area would be turned into a residential neighborhood that would consist of normal and subsidized housing. With the help of Alan Littlewood and Jane Jacobs, they managed to create what is now known as one of the most successful developments in urban planning.
